About This Blog
I'm Nils Bergqvist. I'm not a doctor or a researcher. I'm a data analyst based in Copenhagen who spent tracking digestive changes over 18 months of systematic gut health testing — and started writing down what actually changed.
Who I Am
I'm 34, living in Copenhagen, and I work in data analyst. Screen-heavy days, irregular schedules, and the kind of low-grade fatigue that doesn't get flagged on a standard health check.
I don't have clinical credentials. What I do have is a detailed log going back several years, a habit of tracking one variable at a time, and a tolerance for reading research I don't fully understand on the first pass.
Why I Started This
After a course of antibiotics at 31, my digestion never fully recovered. I saw several specialists, all of whom said things were 'within normal range.' I started tracking my own patterns and experimenting with probiotics and dietary changes. Three years later, I have a detailed picture of what actually helped.
This blog is that log made public. It is not a research journal. It is a record of what I tested, what I noticed, and what the evidence says when you dig past the headline claims.
How I Track Things
My method is consistent rather than rigorous. I track digestion regularity, bloating frequency (1–5 scale), energy after meals, and mood consistency. I introduce one change at a time and give it enough time before drawing conclusions.
- One intervention at a time — probiotics, prebiotic fibres, and fermented foods are introduced separately
- Minimum 6 weeks per intervention — gut microbiome shifts are slow
- Daily symptom log — digestion, bloating, and energy after meals tracked consistently
- Diet held constant — I don't change eating patterns while testing a new intervention
What You'll Find Here
Every post is grounded in my own experience and cross-referenced against peer-reviewed literature. I write in first person because these are my observations — not clinical conclusions.
- Probiotic strains — what different strains actually do and what the evidence says
- Fermented foods vs supplements — when whole food sources outperform capsules
- Fibre and prebiotics — feeding the microbiome rather than adding to it
- Mistakes I made — the early months were expensive and mostly ineffective
